On the music scene, John Lennon was reunited with his father, Freddie, after 17 years, on this day in 1964. Also, on this day in 1970, John Lennon and Yoko One released hoax reports that they were having dual sex change operations.

On this day in 2012, at the 32nd annual Golden Raspberry Awards, which acknowledges bad movies, Jack and Jill, a comedy starring Adam Sandler,  took the award for worst film of the year.

The Blue Angel, the film that offered a breakthrough role for Marlene Dietrich, was released in Germany on this day in 1930.

Reggae artist Jimmy Cliff turns 75 today, while film director Barry Sonnenfeld turns 70 and Love Story star Ali McGraw turns 84.
