This Day in Showbiz History… February 15

janesJane Seymour (pictured), Bond girl in 1973’s Live and Let Die, turns 66 today, while Ali Campbell of UB40 turns 58 and former supermodel Janice Dickinson turns 62. Another former model, Marisa Berenson, who became an actress and starred in the Bob Fosse film classic, Cabaret, turns 70 today.

Locally, singer Zwai Bala turns 42 today.

On this day in 1964, The Beatles rose to the top of the UK charts with Meet the Beatles!, and stayed there for 11 weeks.

Also worth noting is that it was on this day in 1965 that the great Nat King Cole died. Another who died on this day, in 1984, was Broadway and screen legend Ethel Merman, who was 76 when she passed away. Merman was Broadway’s original Rose in Gypsy, and also created roles in the original productions of Anything Goes, Red, Hot and Blue!, Call Me Madam and Annie Get Your Gun.

The song topping the South African Springbok Radio chart this week in 1985 was Wild Boys by Duran Duran which spent  only one week at No 1. Just saying…
