Rocker Jerry Lee Lewis (pictured), who died at the age of 88 on October 28 in 2022, was born on this day in 1935.

Actor Ian McShane turns 83 today and Matt Goss, former lead singer of ’80s band Bros, turns 57. Award-winning Durban designer and director Greg King turns 54 today.

Canadian comic Russell Peters turns 55 today and former Baywatch actress Erika Eleniak turns 56. Old-time actresses Greer Garson and Anita Ekberg were both born on this day – Garson in 1904 and Ekberg in 1931.

The film version of Hamlet, directed by and starring Laurence Olivier, opened on this day in 1948, and went on to take the Best Picture Oscar the following year.

Today in 1930 marked the wedding of singer-actor Bing Crosby and Dixie Lee.

The instrumental Eye Level, by Simon Park Orchestra, rose to the top of the British singles chart on this day in 1973. It was from the TV series Van Der Valk and the first theme from a TV show to top the UK charts. Just saying…
