Actor Mickey Rourke (pictured) turns 73 today while singer Nick Jonas turns 33 and singer Richard Marx turns 63. Illusionist David Copperfield turns 69 today.

Onetime heart-throb star Robert Redford died, aged 89, on this day in 2025, as his home in Utah. Born on August 18, 1936, he was a US actor, producer and director, who won an Oscar for his first directing effort, Ordinary People, in 1980. He received the  Cecil B DeMille award in 1994 and was named by Time  as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2014. 

It was on this day in 1978 that filming began on the Monty Python film success, The Life of Brian, while this day in 1983 marked actor and body-builder Arnold Schwarzenegger becoming a US citizen.

It was on this day in 1990 that actress Meg Ryan and actor Dennis Quaid tied the knot.

Self Control by Laura Branigan topped the South African singles chart on this day in 1984. It spent four weeks there. Just saying…
