British music star Sting (pictured) turns 74 today while Don McLean, of American Pie and Vincent fame, turns 80 and actress Lorraine Bracca, of TV’s The Sopranos, turns 71.
Singer Tiffany – remember her I Think We’re Alone Now hit as a teen in the 1980s? – turns 53 today.
Johannesburg-born singer Peter Vee, who had hits in the ’70s – among them Can We Get to That, He Can Build a Mountain and The Tips of My Fingers – died on this day in 2024, aged 77. Vee was also lead singer with The Outlet, a band that had a hit with Working on a Good Thing, and Buffalo, which charted with Magic Carpet Ride.
The series Alfred Hitchcock Presents, hosted by director Alfred Hitchcock, premiered on American television on this day in 1955. Also on this day, in 1957, the film Bridge Over the River Kwai, directed by David Lean, was released. It went on to take the Best Picture Oscar the following year.
