Oscar-winning Aussie actress Nicole Kidman (pictured) turns 58 today while Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, who died on June 11, 2025, would have turned 84 today.

Singer Lionel Richie turns 76. Actor John Goodman turns 73 and Aussie singer Anne Murray (of You Needed Me fame) turns 80.

Sweet Magnolias star Olympia Dukakis, who died on May 1, 2021, aged 90, would have celebrated her birthday today, while Sweet Home Alabama actor Josh Lucas turns 54. Director Stephen Frears turns 84 today.

Donald Sutherland, a Canadian actor whose prolific career in TV shows and movies showed a diverse range, died on this day in 2024, aged 88.  His sex-decade career included his starring as authority-loathing surgeon Hawkeye Pierce in the M*A*S*H movie to villain President Snow in The Hunger Games franchise. Other hit films included Klute, Kelly’s Heroes, JFK, Ordinary People and Don’t Look Now. Considered one of the best actors never nominated for an Oscar, he was given an Academy Award Honorary Award in 2017.

On this day in 1974, the hit film Chinatown, with Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway, was released, while on this day in 1975 the Steven Spielberg classic, Jaws, first reached cinemas.

The Abba hit, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, rose to the top of the South African singles chart on this day in 1975, marking their second local No 1. It spent two weeks crowning the chart. Just saying…
