This Day in Showbiz History… July 6

ON THIS DAY IN 2025:

It was on this day in 1994 that Forrest Gump, directed by Robert Zemeckis, was released, going on to win an Oscar for star Tom Hanks (pictured) as well as for best film.

Sylvester Stallone turns 79 today while comedian-actor Kevin Hart turns 46 and actor-rapper 50 Cent turns 50. Actor Geoffrey Rush turns 74, actress Eva Green turns 45 and French actress Nathalie Baye celebrates her 77th birthday.

This day in 1953 marked the wedding of actor Roger Moore and Welsh singer Dorothy Squires, while on this day in 1973, actress Diana Rigg, star of TV’s The Avengers, wed Israeli painter Menachen Gueffen.

John Lennon and Paul McCartney met for the first time on this day in 1957 as Lennon’s band, Quarrymen, performed at a church dinner. Then, on the same day in 1964, they attended the London premiere of the film A Hard Day’s Night, starring them as a member of The Beatles, alongside George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

The catchy Fox on the Run by British band Sweet was at No 1 on the South African singles chart on this day in 1975, remaining there for five weeks. It was the group’s third and final No 1 hit. Just saying…
