Actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers (pictured), star of many films and TV’s The Tudors, turns 48 today while singer Bobbie Gentry turns 83 and George Shelley, singer with the British band Union J, turns 31.

Maureen McGovern, who had a hit with The Morning After, from the ’70s film The Poseidon Adventure, turns 76 today. Taylor Schilling, blonde principal star of TV’s Orange is the New Black, turns 41.

The musical Little Shop of Horrors had its off-Broadway premiere on this day in 1982. It went on to be turned into a 1986 film directed by Frank Oz, starring Rick Moranis and Steve Martin.

The George McRae hit Rock Your Baby – considered by many to be the first disco No 1 – rose to the top of the UK singles chart on this day in 1974, where it remained for three weeks. Just saying…
