It was on this day in 2007 that award-winning Durban actress Liesl Coppin (pictured) had one of her kidneys transplanted into her then-two-and-a-half-year-old son, Josh. He had been diagnosed at 11 months with Stage 4 kidney cancer.

Liesl has appeared in several popular Durban shows. Her awards include a Durban Theatre Award for her performance in The Glitter Girls.

On this day, in 2002, film star Kevin Bacon appeared on Broadway as a former minister suffering a crisis of faith, in An Almost Holy Picture.

On this day in 1980, movie star Janet Gaynor made her Broadway debut in Harold and Maude. It was panned by critics and closed two days later.

Still on Broadway, Playbill reports that this day in 2012 marked a revival of the acclaimed Terrence McNally drama, Master Class, starring Tyne Daly, the star of TV’s Cagney and Lacey, as diva Maria Callas.
