Harry Stiles (pictured) of One Direction turns 32 today while Lisa Marie Presley, who died in January 12, 2023, would have turned 58.

Don Everly of the Everly Brothers was born on this day in 1937, and died at the age of 84 in 2021.

Michael C Hall of TV’s Dexter turns 55 and Sherilynn Fynn, of TV’s Twin Peaks, turns 61.

On the local scene, singer Pierre de Charmoy turns 65, actor Emmanual Castis turns 50 today and South African actor Brandon Eilers turns 46.

On this day in 1893, the Puccini opera, Manon Lescaut, premiered in Turin, which was also where Puccini’s La Boheme premiered on this day in 1896.

Also on this day, in 1929, The Broadway Melody, starring Bessie Love, was released … and went on to become the first film with sound to win the Oscar for best picture (in 1930).

Playbill reports that on this day in 2002, a settlement was announced between producer Scott Rudin and composer Stephen Sondheim over ownership of the musical Wise Guys, since retitled Bounce, that allowed its 2003 premiere in Chicago. When the musical finally opened in New York in 2008, it was retitled Road Show.

This week in 1988 saw (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life, by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, top the Springbok Radio chart. The song, from the film Dirty Dancing, held the crown for five weeks. Just saying…
