On this day in 1932, the classic Grand Hotel – the film that has star Greta Garbo (pictured) saying the famous line:  “I want to be alone” – had its premiere. It also starred John Barrymore.

Also of note is that it was on this day in 1992 that actress Lisa Bonet filed for divorce from actor-singer Lenny Kravitz, while Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter married longtime girlfriend Lauren Kitt on this day in 2014.

Actress Saoirse Ronan turns 32 today and actress Claire Danes turns 47, while actor Andy Garcia turns 70. Modern Family star Ed O’Neill turns 80 and legendary musician Herbie Hancock turns 86.

On this day in 1975, iconic performer Josephine Baker, a huge hit in Paris in the Folies-Bergere, died at the age of 68.

On this day in 1987, Boom Boom Boom (Let’s Go Back to My Room) by Paul Lekakis topped of the South African Springbok Radio chart. It remained there for two weeks. Just saying…
