……BILLY SUTER……

SOUTH AFRICAN-BORN performers continue to shine internationally and former Durbanite, professional surfer and model-turned actor, Mike Falkow, based in the US, is one of them. Mike is also a writer, director and producer, and the brother of stand-up comic and actor Cokey Falkow, also now living abroad.

Mike, who turns 49 on August 25, is known for many varied television and movie performances, his credits including roles in the films Invictus (the Clint Eastwood-directed success, in which Mike played a radio announcer), Deceived and Smokin’ Aces.

He caught up with me lately to chat about career updates and is happy to point out that in November he made his first appearance, as a mysterious new character, on the iconic American soap series, The Young and the Restless. Mike was cast as a character claiming to be a gallery owner, who finds his wallet stolen in a flashback sequence pointing to upheaval in the lives of two of the show’s more well-established characters, Audra and Holden.

Other news from Mike is that he is excited about providing the voice of Lucifer in an upcoming, epic, four-part podcast, The Christ, scheduled to be available over Easter via Spotify, Apple Podcasts, RSS Feed and YouTube.

The Christ has been described as “a profound spiritual journey that brings the gospel narrative vividly to life – from the humble manger to the victorious resurrection – through world-class voice talent, cinematic soundscapes, and stirring music”.

Among the cast are John-Rhys-Davies as Narrator, Tom Pelphrey as Jesus Christ,  Paul Walter Hauser as John the Baptist, Davis Oyelowo as JPontius Pilate and Courtney Hope as Mary, Mother of Jesus.

Mike Falkow has had a colourful career. He has a degree in Design and Publishing, and has worked as a designer and creative director for media companies, agencies and corporations.

Before acting, he was a professional surfer who competed around the world for decades. Then he settled in Los Angeles and worked as the Art Director for Rogue Magazine.

The year 2001 proved a memorable one for Mike, as he not only made his TV debut with the series That ’70s Show, but the same year also chalked up appearances in two short movies and made his feature film debut in Dawn of Our Nation, playing the role of a “British soldier”.

He went on to appear in films such Crazy and The House Bunny and has also been seen in Law & Order: LAFree Willy: Escape From Pirate’ s Cove, ScorpionDeceivedNCIS and, more recently, the 2022 TV series, The Orville.
