DURBAN talent features more prominently than ever among nominations for this year’s BroadwayWorld South Africa Awards, an annual, online, public-vote awards celebrating the best in South African theatre.

Free voting has opened for the 2025 awards, which cover musicals, plays, performers and creative teams from regional productions. Awards cover performances from October 1 of one year to September 30 of the next.

Durban’s KickstArt theatre company has a number of productions up for awards – among them The Rocky Horror Show, Puss in Boots and Jack and the Beanstalk. Additionally, company designer Greg King has three nominations for design (for the touring My Fair Lady, Durban’s The Rocky Horror Show and KickstArt’s Cape Town production of Jack and the Beanstalk), while the company’s Steven Stead is a contender for best director for the touring My Fair Lady and the recent Durban hit, The Rocky Horror Show.

Among Durban talent nominated in other categories are Bryan Hiles, Belinda Henwood, Neil Coppen, Leah Mari, Liesl Coppin, Simone Mann, Evan Roberts, Tina le Roux, Terrence Bray and Keely Crocker.

This year the BroadwayWorld Regional Awards are bigger than ever – with more than double the nominees over the previous year. The Regional Awards include over 100 cities across Africa, America, Canada, Central and South America, Europe and Asia.
