HEALTHY eating and cooking is the focus of two new, large, softcover cook books newly published by Human & Rousseau – and copies of both are soon to be on the way to one lucky SoSuterBill.com follower.

The South African Keto & Intermittent Fasting Cookbook, by Rita Venter and Natalie Lawson, is one of the books and it’s a fascinating look at the latest craze in healthy eating, where the focus is on low-carb, high-fat eating.
Similar to the Banting diet, the ketogenic diet, also known as the keto diet, is reportedly a great help with weight loss, epilepsy and other health conditions. It involves limiting daily carb intake to between 25g and 300g and also promotes the intake of healthy foods such as avocado, nuts, seeds and fatty meat cuts.
This reportedly leads to weight loss, improved overall health reduced inflammation and stable blood sugar levels.
A 224-pager selling for around R390, the new book provides a guide through every step of one’s ketogenic journey, explaining the reasoning behind the keto diet and intermittent fasting, and how easy and accessible a ketogenic lifestyle is.
It comes with a 12-step programme, a list of carbohydrate levels per foodstuff, shopping lists and delicious recipes and seven-day meal plans that cover everything from dairy-free, budget, carnivore, camping and intermittent fasting. The book also provides nutritional information, testimonials and tips, as well as questions and answers related to keto.
Recipes include those for soups, breads and seed crackers, light meals, pestos and condiments, main meals and sweet treats.
The other book offered in today’s competition is award-winning author Louisa Holt’s One Pot Cookbook for South Africans, selling for around R385. This is an interesting collection of simple and delicious dishes that are cooked on the stovetop, using only one pot or pan.
Holt serves up nutritious winners that are big on flavour and on your table in under an hour. You save time, effort and money, with the added bonus of less washing up.
If you’re after quick-and-easy family supper solutions using economical, local ingredients, you’d do well to check this one out. Ideal for busy people, families and young adults, as well as for weeknight meals and camping trip, the book has everything from cooking tips, soups, stir-fries, pasta and rice dishes, to batch cooking and sweet treats.
