DURBAN’S fabulous Platform Jazz jazz-swing band, headed by trumpeter Cathy Peacock and featuring guest vocalist Shelley McLean, will perform another diverse programme of popular golden oldies at the Durban Jewish Centre at 2.30pm on Sunday, October 27.

Platform Jazz is to stage The Great Gatsby Party at the Jewish Centre. Presented by Friends of Music and with sponsorship from KZNPAT, the show will see the band taking its audience back to the Roaring Twenties, with nods to other eras as well.
Cathy encourages patrons to dress up for the event. “Get those spats on, those flapper dresses, the fascinators and pearls… and come for an afternoon of toe-tapping, finger-snapping jazz,” she adds.
Cathy, on trumpet as usual, will be joined by her usual, popular line-up of Jeff Robinson on sax, Kirsten Sayers on clarinet, David Solomon on trombone, Bruce Baker on drums, Andreas Kappen on bass and Melvin Peters on piano.
The programme is being finalised but one can expect such varied, classic fare as Twelfth Street Rag, All That Jazz , Ain’t Misbehavin’, Route 66 and Sweet Georgia Brown.
Seating will be at tables of 10 and patrons may bring drinks and snacks. Doors will open at 1.30pm with the show starting an hour later.
