Win 4 tickets to ‘Shall We Dance’

Some of the more than 80 local dancers lined up for Shall We Dance, at Durban’s Playhouse Opera theatre from September 9 to 11.

.…..BY BILLY SUTER……

AFTER a two-year absence as a result of Covid-19 restrictions, Durban’s longest running stage show, Shall We Dance, a celebration of local ballroom, Latin American and other dance styles, featuring both amateur and professional dancers, will be staged at the Playhouse Opera theatre in the city centre next month.

Now in its 28th year, the show runs from September 9 to 11 – but followers of this site have the chance to have a sneak preview as SoSuterBill is offering prizes of three lots of four tickets to attend the dress rehearsal at 6.30pm on Thursday, September 8. See the end of this post for competition entry details.

Marion Loudon will be master of ceremonies for Shall We Dance.

Shall We Dance is once again under the direction of Durban’s Neville Letard and Caryl Cusens and the show’s master of ceremonies is Durban actress and singer Marion Loudon.

Dance styles featured in Shall We Dance this year will include ballroom, Latin American, fast-paced adage, traditional and contemporary ballet, toe-tapping Irish, Bollywood, smooth tap and some elegant show dancing.
The annual extravaganza, presented by the South African Dance Teachers’ Association, will feature as special guests Cape Town couple Keanan McClune and Chantelle le Roux, the 2021 SADTA All South African Ballroom and Latin American Champions. Also on the bill are specialist exhibition dancers from Gauteng, Gerhard van Rooyen and Biana Prinsloo.

Eighty dancers from studios in and around Durban will feature in the production and, for the first time, dancers from Glenwood Boys’ High and Durban Girl’s High, who have taken dance as an extra-curricular activity, will also be in the Shall We Dance spotlight.

Tickets for the show range in price from R100 to R150 and booking is via Webtickets or instore at Pick n Pay Supermarkets or Hypermarkets.

Performances are scheduled for 6.30pm on Friday, September 9; 2.30pm and 6pm on Saturday, September 10; and 11am and 3pm on Sunday, September 11.
