HOW would you like to be among three winners of double tickets to attend the 8pm, Friday, April 10, performance of the hilarious hit musical, The Producers, at Johannesburg’s Pieter Toerien Theatre at Montecasino?

For more details on how to enter the competition see the end of this story.

The winner of the most Tony Awards ever – 12 awards, including Best Musical – The Producers has spawned a South African production that runs at Pieter Toerien’s Montecasino Theatre from April 3 to May 31, after a season in Cape Town.

Based on the hilarious 1967 film, Mel Brooks’ The Producers, the show is a laugh-out-loud, outrageous musical-comedy that has been a smash hit since its 2001 debut, which featured Nathan Lane as Max and Matthew Broderick as Leo.

Fading Broadway producer Max Bialystok (played in the South African production by Alan Committie) is desperate to get to the top of his profession again, and finds an unlikely ally in mousy accountant Leo Bloom (Richard White), who predicts that one could make far more money with a flop of a show than with a hit.

Together, the two set out to produce the worst musical ever to hit Broadway. Unfortunately for them, their show is a huge hit! With no shortage of show-stopping musical numbers, and Brooks’s signature humour keeping audiences in stitches, The Producers is definitely far from a flop.

Also in the South African production are Terence Bridgett as Roger DeBris, Earl Gregory as Carmen Ghia, Philip Schnetler as Stormtrooper, Schoeman Smit as Franz Liebkind , Raquel Munn as Ulla and Claire Glover as Hold Me-Touch Me. The ensemble features Michele La Trobe, Devin Butterworth, Nathan Muller, Joshua Van Niekerk, Nicolette Fernandes and Nadine Suliaman.

Directed by Joseph Pitcher and choreographed by Duane Alexander, the show has Garth Tavares as musical director and Penny Simpson as costume designer. Set design is by Michael Mitchell, sound design by Mark Malherbe and lighting design by Fahiem Bardien.

Performances in Johannesburg are at 8pm Wednesdays to Fridays, 4pm and 8pm on Saturdays and at 2.30pm and 6pm on Mondays. Tickets range in price from R120 to R380. Book at Computicket or by phoning (011) 511 1818.
