POP star Meghan Trainor will have replaced Oscar-winning Dreamgirls star and former American Idols contestant Jennifer Hudson in the hit The Voice UK, when the reality show returns to DStv’s ITV Choice in January.

Platinum-selling American singer-songwriter Trainor will  take over from Hudson as a coach on The Voice UK. The 25-year old singer will join returning coaches Tom Jones, Black Eyed Peas singer and Olly Murs when the show returns.

Trainor, whose hits include All About That BassDear Future Husband, Lips Are Movin’ and No, said: “I am so excited and honoured to join Sir Tom, and Olly as the new coach on The Voice UK! It’s a dream come true and I can’t wait to sit in the chair with my own button and listen to some incredible new talent.”

Hudson, who has been a coach on the show since 2017, has announced on Twitter she will be leaving The Voice UK because of a busy schedule, saying: “Hey y’all! I’m sad to share that I won’t be able to join my friends in the red chair for @thevoiceuk this season due to filming commitments here in the States. I sure will miss my UK family.”

Says ITV’s head of entertainment, Katie Rawcliffe: “Meghan Trainor is such an exciting addition to The Voice UK. She has blown us away with her energy and enthusiasm and, although she is our youngest coach, she has an impressive career in music set to inspire all who join Team Meghan”.

She also extended a “heartfelt thanks” to Hudson, adding: “She has been a tremendous coach, loved by viewers and the singers she has worked with during her time on the show.”

The next series of The Voice UK starts filming in October.
