PRIMARY and high school marching bands, marimba bands, wind bands and orchestras from around South Africa will descend on Reddam House Umhlanga, 21A Preston Drive, this month as the school proudly hosts the South African National Band & Orchestra Competition in the Robert and Robin Muir Auditorium.

The two-day spectacle of music, planned for September 27 and 28, is hosted in conjunction with the South African School Band Association and the Durban Music School. Drumlines and marching bands will perform first, from 3pm on the Friday, with bands and orchestras taking to the the spotlight from 8am on the Saturday.

The event will see ensembles of all forms compete in front of a professional panel of adjudicators.

“This is the first time in many years that the national competition has been hosted in Durban and we cannot wait to have all of these wonderful ensembles here at Reddam House Umhlanga, not to mention, have our own Orchestra be part of the event,” says Russell Scott, director of music at Reddam House Umhlanga.

“Music is such a valued part of Reddam House Umhlanga culture and the opportunity to share this with schools from around South Africa is a real privilege,” he adds.

Tickets for the event cost R40 each day and will be available at the door. For more info email russell.scott@reddam.house
