THE popular Platform Jazz, Durban’s versatile swing band, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year with a jazz extravaganza, in collaboration with Friends of Music, at the Durban Jewish Centre at 2.30pm on Sunday, September 1.
In addition the group will perform, with guest artists, on Saturday, August 31, at S43 in Station Drive, off Umgeni Road. For this event, tickets cost R100. Phone (031)303 2747 to book.
The afternoon anniversary concert at the Durban Jewish Centre, at 44 KE Masinga Road (formerly Old Fort Road), will see current and past members of the band making music together.

This concert has a stellar line-up comprising band leader Cathy Peacock on trumpet, Duncan Wooldridge on trombone, Kirsten Sayers and former original member Ian Holloway on clarinet, Jeff Robinson on flute and sax, Jeff Judge (now resident in the Cape) on sax and vocals, Andreas Kappen on bass, Bruce Baker on drums and Durban jazz man Melvin Peters on piano.
In addition, there will be a guest slot on piano by Christopher Duigan, while Shelley McLean Downham, Natalie Rungan and Bryan Hiles will be guest vocalists for the concert.
Patrons are encouraged to take picnic baskets and beverages as there will be restaurant-style seating. There will be a cash bar on the day.
Seating is limited, so book early. The concert starts at 2.30pm and doors open at 1pm.Tickets cost R130 (R110 for pensioners and students) and can be bought online at Webtickets or at the door on the day. For more information contact Cathy at 082 349 8362.
