DURBAN comedian Jem Atkins is soon to present his first solo show in five years – and two lucky SoSuterBill followers (and their partners) will be in the opening night audience, on Thursday, August 8, at the Seabrooke’s Theatre at Durban High School, St Thomas Road, Musgrave.
For more details on how to enter the competition, see the end of this story.
Presented by On Fire Entertainment, Atkins’s third solo show is titled Not Famous and will be staged at the Seabrooke’s Theatre at 8pm on August 8, 9 and 10. Tickets cost R120 each and are available online at Quicket or at the door on the night.
Ten years on the local comedy scene, Atkins wrote, directed and performed his first solo show, Single Dad, in 2012 and presented the sequel, Single Dad II, two years later. Both were very well received.
Atkins has also garnered a reputation as a professional MC and corporate comedy entertainer. His performances are loaded with high-energy, intelligent observations, and dotted with hilarious antics and impressions. His sharp-witted humour and honesty make for highly memorable audience interactions as he artfully skirts the line between funny and edgy.
Get ready to see the comedian as you’ve never seen him before… that’s the promise on the press release for Not Famous, in which Atkins covers topics ranging from surviving divorce and overcoming addiction to crippling performance anxiety, and the highs and lows of ‘making it big’ in Durban. He is said to be wildly entertaining and brutally honest.
“He’ll share some priceless tips on how to survive tough economic times, the beautiful madness of fatherhood and the hilarious hazards of online dating, all while poking fun at everyday SA life”, adds a spokesman,
Atkins has toured extensively and shared the comedy stage with South Africa’s best. He has also appeared in adverts for YouTube and TV, and is currently building his own YouTube comedy channel show, Jem and Mo Show.
