TWO performances at Durban’s Playhouse Opera, at 2pm and 6pm on March 9, have been scheduled as part of this year’s South African tour by the Royal Moscow Ballet.
Russian cultural impresario Edouard Miasnikov has announced the 2019 tour will feature three pieces: Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Overture: Fantasy; the third movement of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No 6 (Pathétique); and excerpts from Carl Orff’s scenic cantanta, Carmina Burana.
Royal Moscow Ballet has toured successfully around the globe, presenting more than a thousand performances. The company, which consists of graduates of the best Russian choreography, ballet and dance schools, premiered as the Royal Moscow Ballet on August 12, 2002, founded by Anatoly Emelianov and Anna Aleksidze.
All ballets for the 2019 tour have been choreographed by Anatoly Emelianov.
This tour continues last year’s theme celebrating great Russian composer, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsy.
The tour will also see performances at the Johannesburg Linder Auditorium, at 3pm and 7pm on Saturday, March 2, and 2pm on Sunday, March 3. The ballet will then be staged at Pretoria’s Atterbury Theatre at 7pm on March 4 and 7; and at Gabarone’s International Convention Centre at 7pm on March 5.
Final performances are scheduled for the East London Guild Theatre, at 7pm on Monday, March 11; and Bloemfontein’s Sand du Plessis Theatre, at 7pm on March 12.
