The first set will consist of jazz standards associated with Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Wes Montgomery and Miles Davis. The second set will consist of original jazz compositions by the band members.

This performance is part of the Concerts SA Venue Circuit which aims to foster a love and support for live music in our communities, as well as anchor small and medium-sized venues in urban and rural KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and the Western Cape.

Swanson grew up in Amanzimtoti. At age 11 he was given a second-hand guitar and, through the use of books and experimentation, taught himself to play.

Following the Trinity programme, Josh continued to teach himself and his passion for music and guitar led him to the Foundation music programme offered by UKZN, which affords aspiring musicians the opportunity to bridge any gaps that may exist as a result of not having had any formal music training. This platform led Josh to enter into the BMUS Degree programme at UKZN.

Josh is interested in many music genres. However, it was on the Foundation music programme that he developed a love for jazz –  a particularly good match for him.

Have you ever wondered why you laugh when “bad” things happen to other people? Is it just a coping mechanism? Maybe it’s a sign of a terrible childhood, or just a relief response that it didn’t happen to you. Don’t sit at home watching online feeling slightly guilty when you can go out and see it live at Tina’s and laugh your head off!

Bobbert and McIlroy cover subjects ranging from self-deprecation to cultural appropriation, land fills, land grabs, hand grabs, cannabis oil and the ridiculous things we humans get up to… all set to a rocking musical back beat!

IF YOU are in the mood for golden oldies and a party atmosphere, you might want to check out Best of Decades, the showband entertainment running at The Rockwood Theatre at Sibaya Casino, near Umhlanga, until January 27.

The show, featuring hits from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and more recent years, marks the first full year of operation for this increasingly popular, three-tier supper theatre at Sibaya Casino.

Best of Decades is designed for audiences to let down their hair while waving goodbye to this year. Consequently, it is suitably jam-packed with classic chart favourites – as well as some decidedly lesser hits – in an attempt to keep most of the people happy most of the time.
