2019 Golden Globe nominations

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Emily Blunt in Mary Poppins Returns. Both stars stand to win a Golden Globe Award, as does the film itself.

LADY Gaga and Bradley Cooper, the leads in A Star is Born, and Lin-Manuel Miranda and Emily Blunt, the stars of Mary Poppins Returns, are among lead acting nominees for the 76th annual Golden Globe Awards which, honouring the best in film and TV, are to be presented in the US on January 6.

The awards, to be hosted by Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg, also have Cooper nominated for best director of a movie drama, also for A Star is Born, as well as outstanding male lead performance in a drama.

Also nominated for best actor in a drama are Willem Dafoe (At Eternity’s Gate), Lucas Hedges (Boy Erased), Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody) and John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman).

Lady Gaga is up for best female lead in a drama. Her competition is Glenn Close (The Wife), Nicole Kidman (Destroyer), Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me) and Rosamund Pike (A Private War).

Emily Blunt, who plays the title character in Mary Poppins Returns, is nominated for best lead actress in a comedy or musical. Her fellow nominees are Olivia Colman (The Favourite), Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade), Charlize Theron (Tully) and Constance Wu (Crazy Rich Asians).

Lin-Maneul Mirabda, the creator fi the stage hit Hamilton, is a nominee for best lead male performance in a muicla or drama. Also nominated in this category are Christian Bale (Vice), Viggo Mortensen (Green Book),  Robert Redford (The Old Man and the Gun) and John C Reilly (Stan and Ollie),

A Star is Born is nominated for Best Motion Picture (Drama), along with Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody and If Beale Street Could Talk.

Nominated along with Mary Poppins Returns for Best Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical) are Crazy Rich Asians, The Favourite, Green Book and Vice.

Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga in A Star is Born. Both are Golden Globe Award contenders.

Cooper is in the race for bets director of a film drama with Alfonso Cuaron (Roma), Spike Lee (BlacKkKlansman), Peter Farrelly (Green Book) and Adam McKay (Vice).
