BRITISH heavy metal  band Judas Priest, formed in the early 1970s in Birmingham, England, is to perform two concerts in South Africa in 2019 – but Durban is not on the itinerary.

Big Concerts confirmed today that Judas Priest will be coming to South Africa for the first time – performing in Cape Town on March 20, at Grand Arena, GrandWest; and at Johannesburg’s TicketPro Dome on March 22.

Tickets for the concerts, presented by Jacaranda FM, Bok Radio and Channel 24, go on sale at 9am on Friday, September 26, at www.bigconcertsd.com

They are priced from R520 for the Johannesburg concert and R575 for the one in Cape Town.

Judas Priest was one of the first metal bands to exclusively wear leather and studs – a look that began during this era and would eventually be embraced by metal heads throughout the world.

The group went on to change the face of heavy metal. It received a 2010 Grammy Award win for Best Metal Performance, and in 2017 received a Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Fame nomination.

The group’s current album, Firepower, was released in March this year and has become the highest charting album of the band’s career.
