AWARD-WINNING American comedian Chris Tucker, perhaps best known locally for playing Detective James Carter in the film Rush Hour, will perform in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg in November.

Big Concerts has announced that the 46-year-old actor and stand-up comic will open his South African tour at Cape Town’s Grand Arena at GrandWest Casino on November 7. He is then scheduled to perform at the Durban ICC on November 9 before a final concert in Johannesburg, at the TicketPro Dome, on November 10.

Tickets for the Durban concert start from R345, while tickets for the Cape Town and Johannesburg shows start from R460. Booking opens at 9am on Thursday, August 2, at www.bigconcerts.co.za for the tour, which is presented by Comedy Central, Heart FM, East Coast Radio, Kaya FM and Channel 24 and Big Concerts.

Tucker became a favourite on Russell Simmons’s HBO Def Comedy Jam in the 1990s and came to prominence in his first starring role, the 1995 film Friday, starring alongside Ice Cube.

In 1997, Tucker embarked on his first production as executive producer and co-starred in the hit movie Money Talks, with Charlie Sheen. Shortly after that he appeared in Luc Besson’s The Fifth Element. In 2006, Tucker negotiated an unprecedented $25 million salary to appear in Rush Hour 3, which reportedly made him the then-highest paid actor in Hollywood.

Tucker co-starred in the 2013 Oscar nominated film Silver Linings Playbook with Robert DeNiro, Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.

In 2015, his first stand-up film, Chris Tucker Live, was released exclusively on Netflix.

Outside of comedy, Tucker is a dedicated humanitarian spending much of his spare time travelling around the world, doing philanthropic work to make a difference through his Chris Tucker foundation.
