HOW would you like to win a table for eight people to see the new show headed for the grand Rockwood Theatre at Sibaya Casino, near Umhlanga?

The show is That ’80s Show, to be performed at 8pm every Thursday to Saturday and at 2pm on Sundays, from April 12 to June 17. The competition winner will be permitted to take up the prize at any performance of their choice, subject to availability.

Competition entry details appear at the end of this article.

That ’80s Show features popular Durban performers Barry and Calli Thomson – he on guitar and vocals, she on keyboards –  as well as dreadlocked Durban drummer  Dylan van der Linde and his wife, saxophonist Kirsty van der Linde. Others in the cast are vocalists Itu Tshabane, Ally de Bruyn, Kyle Matthews and Aimee Rain, and bassist Trevor Donjeany.

Husband and wife Dylan and Kirsty van der Linde are among the cast of “That 80s Show” at Sibaya Casino’s Rockwood Theatre.

That ’80s Show transports you back to a time when synthesizer music, energetic anthems and incredible voices rocked our world. This was the decade of big hair, shoulder pads, ripped jeans, mullets, neon clothing, Reaganomics and Pac-Man,” says a Rockwood Theatre spokesman.

“More importantly, it also saw the emergence of music channels such as MTV and VH1, which with their music videos, launched the careers of many iconic artists.”

The 1980s produced hit-makers such a Police, Duran Duran, Rick Springfield, Nick Kershaw, Blondie, Madonna, Bananarama, The Bangles, Human League, Yazoo, INXS, Phil Collins and Michael Jackson, to name just a few.

That 80s Show, directed and co-produced by Andrew Webster, highlights songs associated with these acts. Hits featured include Hungry Like the Wolf, Man in the Mirror, True Love, Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now, Heaven Is a Place on Earth, Eternal Flame, Jessie’s Girl, Don’t Go, Cruel Summer, Call Me, In the Air Tonight and many more.

The Rockwood Theatre sells pizzas, platters and light meals, or patrons can bring in meals bought from the Sibaya Food Court. No food from outside the casino may be brought into the theatre, where all drinks have to be bought at the venue.

Tickets on Thursdays cost R100 each on even numbers. The regular price is R200 a head. Tickets on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays cost R130 each, while on Sundays there is a 50% discount for pensioners and free entry for under-12s. To book, or for more info, visit www.rockwoodtheatre.co.za or phone (031) 161 0000.
