COMEDY has a strong focus on the Durban entertainment scene this month, the first in a fun line-up of shows being the popular Kings and Queens of Comedy, to be staged at the Durban ICC at 8pm today, Friday, February 9.
One of South Africa’s longest-running flagship comedy brands, Kings and Queens of Comedy, returns to Durban with its biggest line-up in six years.
The line-up includes Darren Maule (MC), Annalakshmi, Arnotte Payne, Celeste Ntuli, Donovan Goliath, Glen Biederman-Pam, Jason Goliath, Joey Rasdien, Khanyisa Bunu, Leeanda Reddy, Logie Naidoo, Marc Lottering, Riaad Moosa, Rory Petzer, Sagie Murugan and Sifiso Nene, with a guest appearance by Morgan Beatbox.
Tickets for the show, restricted to over-16s, are priced from R200 each and booking is at Computicket.
More laughs are to be found at Sibaya Casino’s iZulu Theatre from 8pm tonight and tomorrow (February 9 and 10), when Durban singer Natalie Rungan and local comics Masood Boomgaard and Bash and Tash pool talents for My Funny Valentine.
Expect a fun mix of love songs in an energetic and entertaining show for which tickets cost R150. Book at Computicket or the Sibaya Casino box-office.
Looking ahead a little, note that Jailoshini Naidoo will present an encore of the popular Aunty Rumba Goes Bollywood at the iZulu Theatre at Sibaya Casino, at 8pm on Friday and Saturday, February 23 and 24, and 3pm on Sunday, February 25.

In Aunty Rumba Goes Bollywood, everyone’s favourite aunty is on a hilarious and stir-crazy mission to meet her Bollywood hero, superstar Rajnikanth. Along for the ride are nosy neighbour Aasiya, uncle’s brother Bully who has a roving eye, and many other colourful characters. Adding to the fun will be a dance group led by Leona Dean.
Finally, note that three fun shows have been finalised for later this month in Durban by On Fire Comedy in partnership with Savanna Premium Cider.
On Wednesday, February 28, head for Amsterdam pub, 143 Helen Joseph Road in Glenwood, to catch laughs with Liam Johns (host), Dalin Oliver (headliner), Keenan Cerff, Troy Tesla and Bob Perfect. The mirth rolls from 8.30pm and admission is R50 at the door. More info by calling (031) 811 5449.
