A WHACKY narrative in dumb-and-dumber style, meshing absurdities of the world of Roald Dahl with a hint of lusty antics a la the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise is at the heart of a stage work by Durban comedy masters Aaron McIlroy and Patrick Kenny.
It’s Captain Redbeard and Jeff’s Great Christmas Adventure, a revival of the fun show the comedy team, and a young cast, staged in Durban North over the 2016 festive season.
It will now be staged at Durban’s Olive Tree Church in Florida Road, Morningside, from December 7 to 16.
The show will see funnyman McIlroy and actor Kenny – also the co-writer and director of McIlroy’s award-winning Comedy Masterclass – in Santa’s returns department, where all “leftovers” and unwanted gifts land up.
Captain Redbeard (McIlroy) and his hapless sidekick Jeff (Kenny) have been commissioned by Mrs Claus to field complaints from undeserving children who aren’t prepared to care for their new possessions.
“Set to send comedy sparks flying, this hour-long entertainment, presented by MacBob Productions, is laced with a heady mix of seasonal songs, ranging from the likes of Mary’s Boy Child and I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas to Santa is Coming to Town,” says publicist William Charlton-Perkins.
“These are performed with gusto by a group of talented senior primary and high school youngsters. The show also includes a delightful guest appearance by beguiling vocalist, Shannon Kenny.”
Performances of Captain Redbeard and Jeff’s Great Christmas Adventure have been set for noon on Thursday, December 7, and noon and 2.30pm on Friday, December 8. Remaining performances will be at noon from Monday, December 11, to Saturday, December 16.
