The show is the fun A Handful of Keys, which has become an enormous hit since it was first launched in 1994 as a co-creation between, and vehicle for, Ian von Memerty and Bryan Schimmel.

The production, with a changing cast over the years, has gone on to play to more than 420 000 people in more than 1450 performances over the last 23 years.

Now it is back for another season – slotting in at the large iZulu Theatre at Sibaya Casino, near Umhlanga, from November 8 to 19.

Up for grabs are three lots of double tickets to attend the opening performance of this collage of comedy, song and novel piano playing – at 8pm on Wednesday, November 8.

One of the virtuoso stars of the show is Roelof Colyn, a stalwart of A Handful of Keys since 2001, beloved by audiences for his effortless charm, deadpan wit and the liquid magic of his playing. He is joined by James Smith, aged 19, the youngest person to appear in A Handful of Keys.

As producer Von Memerty says: “It is a risk putting such a young person into a show as complicated as this, but I believe that James, with his unique mix of musicality, quirky humour and the beautiful timbre of his expressive voice, is up to the challenge”.

Plus, this year, director Von Memerty, who has expanded and developed the show since 1997, has added a new and dazzling difference. This time around there will be an extra “handful” on stage.

A Handful of Keys unravels as a constant surprise with devastating wit and musical mastery; from piano pyrotechnics to inspiring inventiveness in a two-hour fireworks display of excitement, energy and sheer, mind-blowing talent.

Audiences can still expect highlights such as The Complete History of The Broadway Musical in 12 Minutes, and favourites associated with Liberace, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and others, as well as a colourful medley of South African hits .

Tickets cost R100, R130 and R160 at Computicket outlets and the Sibaya Casino box-office.
