A DAY of free movies will herald the arrival of a new eight-screen, Nu Metro cinema complex at Cornubia Mall in Umhlanga on September 29.
At the same time, Ster-Kinekor has announced that a new, six-cinema complex will open later this month at the I’langa Mall in Nelspruit.
The Xtreme cinema at Cornubia Mall, offering luxury and superior sound, will mark the sixth of these fully immersive cinema formats in South Africa – simply summed up as “big screens, big sound, best digital quality”.
KwaZulu-Natal now has two luxury 4DX cinemas – the other having opened last year at Nu Metro at The Pavilion in Westville.
“4DX features full-length movies in live action. This is a multi-sensory cinema in its truest form: environmental effects (including moving seats, wind, water, scents, lightning and fog) synchronised with the action on-screen, showcasing the world’s top blockbusters in a format which makes viewers literally a part of the movie,” says a spokesman.
To celebrate the occasion, Nu Metro Cornubia Mall will host a Free Movie Day from noon until 8pm on Friday, September 29, a day after the cinemas open. Movie fans will get an opportunity to see their favourite movies in Xtreme, VIP or 2D/3D at no cost. More details and specific movie titles will be announced closer to the time.
“Nu Metro’s world-class cinema formats serve to reignite the magic of the movies – to give customers an experience that can’t be duplicated anywhere else; featuring the latest, cutting-edge quality and comfort,” says a spokesman.
“Nu Metro Cornubia Mall will have two VIP cinemas with luxurious leather, recliner seating, a VIP lounge and an à la carte menu prepared in Nu Metro’s own kitchen by its VIP chef.”
The VIP lounge will also double-up as an event venue, and will be available for hire for corporate and private functions.
The 65 000-square-metre Cornubia Mall is easily accessible from the N2 highway, the M41 and Cornubia Boulevard.
The mall offers a good selection of food, fashion, lifestyle and sports attractions integrated into an outdoor, family-oriented shopping experience. The mall is connected by bridges, landscaped walkways and pavements that give shoppers a sense of being indoors and outdoors at the same time.
Getting back to the new Ster-Kinekor cinema complex in Nelspruit – it will have its first screenings on September 21, Heritage Day.
“This exciting addition to the entertainment offering that forms part of the expansion to the I’langa Mall is sure to entice movie lovers from the greater Nelspruit community,” says, Motheo Matsau, chief of marketing and sales of Ster-Kinekor Theatres.
“The cinemas are a welcome attraction to the area, and Ster-Kinekor is committed to living up to its customer promise of delivering ‘great moments at their greatest’.
“As we countdown to the official opening of the state-of-the-art cinemas, we invite the public to enjoy the very latest blockbusters on the big screen in the comfort of our cinemas. Each cinema is fitted with the very latest in digital projection to generate a crisp, clear picture quality and surround sound through the advanced speaker system, to ensure an exceptional cinema experience.”
The complex also offers Ster-Kinekor’s innovative self-service ticketing and catering terminals. Here, customers can buy their movie tickets and select, order and pay for their catering choices via the terminals, before heading to the catering counter to collect their order.
The terminals ensure a streamlined process enabling customers to purchase their tickets and catering with minimal queuing time, before heading into one of the cinemas to watch their movie of choice.
“Another exciting addition to our complex here at I’langa Mall is the introduction of our ‘VIP’/ Premium cinema offering, in the form of a luxurious Cine Prestige theatre,” says Matsau.
