WONDER WOMAN ****

Israeli model and actress Gal Godot stars as Amazon princess Diana in this glossy sci-fi spectacle which has her, in the early 20th century, living on the island of Themyscira. She meets US military pilot Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) when he washes ashore. After learning from him about the ongoing events of World War 1, leaves her home for London in a bid to bring an early end to the war. Director Patty Jenkins previously directed 2003’s Monster.

Drikus’s love of life and determination brings the surrounding lifeless community together and gives them a new lease on life.

NOW ON STAGE IN DURBAN AND SURROUNDS 

JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH
(Rhumbelow Theatre, Umbilo, Durban)

KickstArt presents the popular children’s story by Roald Dahl, starring Bryan Hiles as the young boy who has a remarkable adventure involving a giant peach and five eccentric giant insects. Directed and designed by Greg King, the fantasy-comedy, with original music by South Jersey Pom Poms,  also feature, Clare Mortimer, Peter Court, Belinda Henwood, Nhlakanipho Manqele and Lyle Buxton. Performances are at 2.30pm Tuesdays to Fridays, 11am and 3pm on Saturdays, and 2.30pm on Sundays. No babes in arms or children under three. Book at Computicket. (BS)

GOTTA LOTTA SOUL
(Rhumbelow Theatre, Umbilo, Durban)

Featuring Percy Smith and Marion Loudon on vocals, Calli Thomson on keyboards, Andy Turrell on guitar and drums, and Jill Murraybrown on bass, this show will be staged, this weekend and next, at 8pm on Friday and Saturday and 2pm on Sundays, with an additional 6.30pm performance on Sunday, July 23. A celebration of American soul music, it features songs associated with, among others, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Ruth Brown, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations and Wilson Pickett. Also saluted are novelty artists such as Ray Charles, Cab Calloway, the Blues Brothers and James Brown.Tickets cost R150 each and seating is at tables of eight. Tonya, seen most recently in her Liza Minnelli tribute show, Liza With a T, at the Rhumbelow in Umbilo, puts her own spin on classics such as All About That Bass, Memories, My Favourite Things and I’m Still Here, among others.
