DURBAN is to host the first Africa edition of the popular Nickelodeon TV channel game show, SlimeFest – and Ushaka Marine World will be the venue for what is labelled as “a weekend of family fun, sun, slime and music”.
Top DJs and musicians will join recording stars Mafikizolo and Cassper Nyovest for the event, scheduled for 8am to 6pm on April 8 and 9.
The fun will take place at the Dolphin Aquarium, Wet ’n’ Wild and Kids’ World venues in the marine theme park, and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The cost is R250 each.
Co-organisers of the SlimeFest, Nickelodeon (DStv channel 305) and uShaka Marine World, have also added to the music bill Emtee, KO, The Kiffness, Twins On Decks and Timo ODV.
“The marine world is to be transformed into an icky, sticky, squelchy, green-and-orange paradise for all the family to enjoy,” says a spokesman, adding that older children will delight in a host of games and day-long activities.
“They can head for the interactive Slime Zone for an epic Slime Blaster Battle; take a relaxing Slime Shower; slither around on the Zorb Ball Slime Pool; or get to grips with an arch-enemy during a bout of Slime Sumo.
“For the younger kids, there will be singalongs from their favourite Nickelodeon characters, including SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora and Friends, Chase and Marshall from Paw Patrol, and those green amphibious heroes from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. A dedicated Pre-School Zone for very young children will be hosted in the Kids’ Corner.”
Hosts of the event will be Joey Rasdien and Nomzamo Mbatha.
“We at uShaka are going all-out to ensure we are leaders in family-friendly entertainment in Durban,” says the theme park’s marketing executive, Mpume Mthembu.
“This is an event that has it all: music, fun, favourite television characters and opportunities for every generation – from tiny tots to tweens, teens and adults – to let their hair down and push those boundaries.
“Over the past 13 years we have strived to give our customers the best in entertainment. From the largest aquarium in Africa, to dolphin and seal shows at Sea World, and thrilling slides and pools at Wet ’n’ Wild, and more, uShaka is a fun paradise.
“We believe that we have something for everyone and this is similarly the case through our collaboration with Nickelodeon’s SlimeFest which is sure to be a one-of-a-kind experience.”
