SOMETHING magically intriguing is lined up for DStv’s Discovery Family (channel 136) at 4.50pm tomorrow (February 24) – a series that explains how a magician crushes a 10-ton oil tanker like it’s a softdrink can… and how one can drive a 4×4 vehicle across a swimming pool without sinking.

The show, Magic of Science, also promises to explain how one can make a man levitate 10cm off the ground.

Fusing the showmanship and mystery of street magic with the raw power of science, the show is said to expose the marvellous mechanics behind these seemingly miraculous feats.

“Each episode features rising stars from the world of magic as they wow their unsuspecting public with a variety of amazing tricks, dazzling displays and truly amazing stunts,” says a DStv spokesman.

These tricks include knocking down a wall with the power of one’s voice as well as turning a silver bracelet into gold.

“Having floored their audience with remarkable spectacles, the cunning magicians then reveal the science behind their incredible illusions.”

This series promises to also test the boundaries of innocence by featuring undercover, hidden-camera set pieces where the public have no idea they’re standing witness to some incredible magic – all of which is in fact pure science.

Uncover the secrets of these confounding performances and examine the extraordinary science that makes the impossible possible.

Moving on to magic of the fashion world… a new series headed for DStv’s E! (channel 124), at 9.25pm on March 1, promises to take Cosmopolitan magazine readers into the offices of the world’s biggest female media brand, headed by editor-in-chief Joanna Coles.

“The magazine industry is a fantastic industry. It’s competitive, it’s rich, it’s fun, it’s full of deep, fabulousity,” Coles says in a promo video for the series, titled So Cosmo.

“It’s an amazing place and we try to capture all of it and throw it on the page for the reader.”

But it’s not all fashion, fun and runways. It’s hard work and there’s lots of drama among the Cosmo staffers

In addition to Coles, the So Cosmo preview special introduces fans to Cosmopolitan’s Diandra Barnwell (Brand Co-ordinator), Tiffany Reid (Senior Fashion Editor), Steven Brown (Bookings Director), Evan Betts (Fitness Contributor), Adam Mansuroglu (Fashion Editor), James Worthington Demolet (Senior Fashion Editor) and Leah Wyar (Executive Beauty Director).
